Customs Electronic Links

Increasing security concerns demand Customs to tighten screening and inspection procedures at each port along the nation's border. Competitive business environment requires goods to be move freely in and out of the borders. To achieve these two conflicting goals, US Customs is looking at technology for the answers. C-TPAT, FAST, BRASS are programs designed to balance the two conflicting goals. All these programs speed up border crossing process and tighten security by either requiring carriers to file manifests electronically, or requiring importers or brokers to file entries electronically.

The Automated Manifest System (AMS) is a multi-modular cargo inventory control and release notification system for sea, air, and rail carriers. AMS speeds the flow of cargo and entry processing and provides participants with electronic authorization to move cargo prior to arrival. AMS also facilitates the intermodal movement and delivery of cargo by rail and trucks through the In-bond system.

The Automated Broker Interface (ABI) is a component of the U.S. Customs Service's Automated Commercial System that permits qualified participants to electronically file required import data with Customs. ABI is a voluntary program available to brokers, importers, carriers, port authorities, and independent service centers. Currently, over 96% of all entries filed with Customs are filed through ABI.
